At least 300 people have been killed after a huge earthquake struck the Chilean coast, which triggered a tsunami and sparked warnings for 53 countries. Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet has declared a “state of catastrophe” following the quake, which measured a significant 8.8 on the Richter scale. Warnings have been issued for South American nations as well as Australia and New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, Russia and many Pacific islands.

A suicide bomber killed 10 people near an upmarket shopping and hotel complex in the heart of Kabul today, while police shot dead two other would-be attackers. A military official said that 10 people were killed and 11 others wounded. Witnesses reported at least two smaller blasts around the Safi Landmark complex as police cordoned off the area, ambulances rushed to the scene and sporadic gunfire was heard
BEIJING CHINA: China’s military warned the United States on Thursday to “speak and act cautiously” to avoid reigniting tensions between the two powers, denying the People’s Liberation Army played a part in Internet hacking. Huang Xueping, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defence, said his government would not reverse its decision to suspend “bilateral military plans” with Washington after it said in late January that it would sell $6.4 billion of arms to Taiwan, the self-ruled island Beijing claims as its own. In January, the giant Internet search company Google Inc threatened to pull back from China after complaining of censorship and hacking attacks on it and other companies.
An explosion ripped through a coal mine in northwest Turkey, killing 17 workers, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said. Forty seven citizens were working 80 meters below ground in that mine. Unfortunately 17 people died and 30 have been under treatment in hospitals, Erdogan said
